Peter Goljan, MD

Orthopedic Surgeon

About

Dr. Peter Goljan originally hails from Worcester, MA, and attended Boston College as an undergraduate, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and English. He then attended St. George’s University School of Medicine where he received his Doctorate of Medicine degree.

After medical school, Dr. Goljan spent time pursuing orthopedic research opportunities at the prestigious Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, CO, followed by The Philadelphia Hand Center in in Philadelphia, PA before completing his orthopedic residency in New Jersey at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center/Seton Hall University in Paterson, NJ. During residency Dr. Goljan had the ability to train with a multitude of renowned surgeons, including completing specialized training in pediatric orthopedics at the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE, as well as orthopedic oncology in Morristown, NJ. His residency’s close affiliation with Seton Hall allowed Dr. Goljan to assist in their sports team coverage, and he was chosen to oversee physician coverage at a multitude of high school programs in the Passaic county area during residency. Dr. Goljan enjoys working with and teaching students at any level, from pre-medical students to residents in training, and was selected as Chief Resident in his final year of residency. Out of the operating room, Dr. Goljan continued to pursue his interests in orthopedic research, with projects selected for presentation at sports specialty meetings as well as the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery annual meeting.

Following residency Dr. Goljan chose to pursue a year of additional specialty training in sports medicine, and spent a year honing his skills in both non-operative and operative sports medicine at Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Irvine, CA. While there, he assisted in game, office, and surgical care of a number of professional athletes. Specifically this included sideline and training room coverage of the Los Angeles Chargers football team as well as the University of California, Irvine athletics and many local Orange County high school teams. His time at Hoag allowed him the opportunity to learn and perfect cutting edge surgical techniques and procedures from pioneers in the sports medicine field, including but not limited to both arthroscopic and open approaches to injuries of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle.

Dr. Goljan returned to New Jersey after his specialty training and is happy to evaluate and treat all levels of athlete, from the adolescent to the aging weekend warrior. He enjoys and takes pride in developing a treatment algorithm that is tailored directly to the needs of the individual patient.

Outside of the office Dr. Goljan enjoys golfing, rowing, & visiting as many national parks as his office schedule allows.
