ACL Reconstruction

ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) reconstruction surgery is a procedure performed to repair a torn or a damaged anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), which is one of the major ligaments in the knee.

The ACL provides stability and controls the movement of the knee joint. This ligament also controls knee rotation during activities like sports that involve sudden direction changes. The reconstruction procedure is performed using an arthroscopy, where small incisions are made, and the graft is secured using screws or other types of fixation methods/devices.

The damaged ACL is replaced with this graft and is usually harvested from the patient’s patellar tendon or hamstring tendon. Following the surgery, rehabilitation and physical therapy is strongly recommended to help regain strength & stability in the knee, with a gradual return to activities occurring after several months.
