Knee Contusion in Union, NJ

A Knee Contusion, more commonly referred to as a bruised knee, is often the result of a sudden direct impact to the knee. This can include a fall or a sports related injury. These contusions often present within 24 hours of the injury and may be accompanied by pain or stiffness. Contusions occur due to damage to the smaller blood vessels within the injured tissue. Blood leaks into the surrounding tissues, resulting in the black and blue appearance of the skin.

While most contusions will subside with rest and ice, it is important to seek medical attention to rule out other conditions including:

  • Fractured Patella
  • Ligament damage
  • Cartilage damage
  • Sprain
