A plica is a fold of synovial tissue located within the knee. This fold can sometimes become inflamed and cause pain. Synovial tissue is found within the interior area of the joint and produces synovial fluid, which lubricates and nourishes the joint. A plica removal is a procedure designed to address these symptoms caused by the plica fold.
Here’s a brief overview of the plica removal procedure:
- Arthroscopy: Small incisions are created around the area, and a tiny camera (arthroscope) is used to evaluate the joint as well as any other injuries.
- Plica Removal: The plica is carefully removed from the area.
- Recovery & Return to Normal: A structured rehabilitation program is important to regain strength, mobility, and flexibility gradually returning to normal activities.
